Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
My name is Diane Kim. I am originally from South Korea and lived in Seattle for five years. I graduated University of Washington and moved to San Francisco to study TESOL program at UC Berkeley. My favorite activities are hiking and cooking.
How long have you worked at IIC?
I have worked at IIC since June, 2013.
What are your current responsibilities?
I am an administrative assistant at IIC. I work with students who wish to enter/transfer to our school. I give them general information and file their documents. I also give a placement test for incoming students every Friday. For the current students, I check their attendance hours, tuition date, and vacation.
What do you like best about working at IIC?
The best thing about IIC is staffs always try to understand students’ culture. They respect students’ beliefs, values, and needs, and it helps me understanding different points of view and learning something new.
Tell me about your typical day.
I wake up at 7:00AM and drive to Ashby Bart station. I usually come to IIC 10 minutes before students come, which is 8:50 AM. Then I open my e-mail to check students’ inquiries and online applications from abroad. After I reply all of the questions, I handle students’ invoices and manage the student database. At break times I do Facebook or go to Whole food to get finger foods.
What do you do when you are not working at IIC?
I really enjoy getting outside. I usually go hiking because I love the beauty of nature and enjoy the conversations that I have while hiking. One of the best things about hiking is it gives me a chance to escape from the stress from my hectic daily life. :)
