My career background is in Marketing, Public Relations and Promotions for large corporations and small agencies. I have also worked for non-profits.
I really wanted to do something different and decided that teaching English abroad sounded like just the thing. I took my TEFL course in Samara, Costa Rica in 2016. It is a little beach town on the Pacific coast. It was intensive and lots of fun and I met life long friends.
Four of us accepted offers to teach in the small town of Liberia –about two hours North of Samara at Intituto Estelar Bilingue. I taught children and adults. Some of my classes were very advanced with lots of conversation and discussion. Other classes were very beginning. I taught one class of seniors (over 50) that didn’t speak any English at all! They were all speaking and writing when my year was up.
I decided to come home to the Bay Area and am so happy teaching here at IIC. It is a wonderful place to work and study,There is a real family feel here. I teach two classes: Business English and B1 Reading/Writing.
I live in Oakland with my Chihuahua, Monte and my cat Max–both rescue pets. I enjoy yoga and meditation and relaxing with Netflix.
